RAM isn't as important as ROM, which with that old a device is
probably 16meg, or 32 if you are lucky. you probably won't be able to
run 8.x on it unless it does have 32 or more.

as far as battery drain, the newew devices have more effcient boards
and so the battery drain is probably the same.
