RE: How stable is 0.8.4/GPE on Ipaq 3950?

Here is some feedback from a novice.

I recently put Familiar on my 3950. I have tried GPE and Opie and, at the
moment, I prefer Opie. Please bear in mind, I am NOT a computer expert. I
play with Linux for my own education, and it is a slow education.

Someone posted a command to type into console that gets the SD card working.
That made me very happy. I would like to get it to happen automatically when
the machine boots, but typing the command is easy. "modprobe mmc_asic3" is
what you type into console.

I have not been able to log onto the internet to do the post-installation
ipkg updates, so there may be things there that would benefit my experience.
My issue is getting the proper PCMCIA WIFI card driver installed. I can't
even get one to "bind" with the card. I am in the process of getting a
different card and will try some more once that happens.

Overall, I like Opie and it seems to run well on my 3950. I have had one or
two minor instances of the system appearing to freeze, but no major
problems. In fact, it seems more reliable than when I had Pocket PC
installed.

I would like to have a spreadsheet program and more games for those times
when I'm bored at work, and the ability to share info with MS Outlook on my
PC. But I should be able to correct most of that when I get internet
connectivity and can download and update packages.

I did my install by using a CF card in my expansion sleeve, since I don't
have a cradle. All went smoothly with the install.

Yes, I have drained the battery completely and restarted the IPAQ after
charging the battery. No real problems with that.

I hope these comments from a computer dummy are helpful.

Subject: [Familiar] How stable is 0.8.4/GPE on Ipaq 3950?

Hi, I've been away from the list for the last months after I got a dead
batery trying to use 0.8.2 on Ipaq 3950 and leaving battery drain for the
first time.

I bought a new battery and restored Pocket PC but I'd like to give it
another chance, so what are your experiences with new familiar releases and
Ipaq 3950?

Any battery/ASIC/learn cycles issues?
Mount/SD issues?
Suspend/Power off issues?
How many of you don't use your Ipaq for such long time that the battery is
drained and you can't even turn it on? Does it recharge and you have the
Ipaq back to life?

Please give me good news ;)
.. but is the bad news that I want to hear.

Thank you
