Here comes my info:
computer running git:
perl: 5.8.8
git: 1.5.0.4
kernel: 2.6.18-gentoo-r3-1
Network gateway: OpenBSD 3.6 running pf
For the record I do not think that the problem is on the client computer, I was able to replicate it by flushing the state tables on the gateway. However, setting a long time out for the state entries did not improve the situation. The only way to solve it was connecting the client to the modem, disconnecting the whole network for the duration of the checkout! The gateway is scheduled for update sometime this summer...
The only thing that may probably be improved on git is the way it handles unresponsive connections. Anyone knows if there is any sort of time-out/retry feature if data just stops arriving? Is there any other way to access the repository other than by http?
