hi,
first of all, thanks, nils faerber, for warm welcome to the
mailing list.
i joined this list because i am interested in user interface
of small devices and pda seems to be a great place to experiment.
although i was reading discussins regarding data storage etc,
those weren't my primary interest and so didn't join.
that said, let me talk about what i want to do.
i'm planning to start working on an application.
the application i have in mind is a circular
menu which floats on top of other applications, just like
xstroke does. since menues are mostly transient, it can cover
some of application's drawing area. by keeping applications
still visible, users wouldn't lose the context of work.
i think such an application can be used to:
- launch other applications.
- select running applications / windows.
- select keys and send them to applications (i.e. what
xstroke does).
- select special keys / evens (e.g. cut & paste, function
key, etc)
- act as application menu (if other applications are willing
to cooperate).
and why i want to make it circular menu, instead of normal
cascading menu is that arranging menues in circular
manner saves screen space and pointer travel distance
(i think).
hope i'm not talking too much about what people aren't
interested in. i'm glad to hear people's opinion about
my plan.
koji
