I think the suggestion to use RPC for synchronization is a good one. I
would recommend using xml-rpc or soap, because these seem to be widely
acceptable RPC protocols with implementations for many programming
languages.

I do not think the iPAQ should talk ODBC directly -- it would be better
to put the ODBC adapter on the server.

sqlite does not need to implement RPC -- the synchronization program can
talk to sqlite on the ipaq and to the repository on the server via RPC.
