It is my understanding that the 'core' apps will be written in C for
speed. There is nothing to stop python apps from being 'stopgaps'.
(Though I don't mean that in a bad way; the app itself may continue to
be improved like mingle/etc., but just not as a 'core' part of GPE).
That's my opinion, BTW, not a fact. (I'm just a lowly developer :-)
It may even be enough to have speed-critical parts of GPE to be in C,
and the rest in python - eg. SQL interface to python, pygtk UI. If the
searching etc. is done by the SQL bit, it will still be fast. (Try
searching with 80+ cards in mingle, slow++. I wrote a C version a while
back that used XML to store the cards; it was incredibly fast to start &
search, but I never added the ability to edit the data)
