sleep and screensaver

My iPAQ has been sitting in its cradle since installing bootgpe (rc1) earlier
today. I just noticed that it's still got the backlight on and no screensaver
has activated. Furthermore, the sleep configuration has everything checked
and enabled, and there doesn't seem to be any utility available yet for
configuring the screensaver.

I don't know if there's a difference between the iPAQ being in the cradle and
not, but if there's no difference then we have a problem with rc1. It would
seem that the screensaver (at least) would kick in, and maybe even sleep mode,
even when in the cradle.
