You have some kind of pango problem.
Make sure that you have the latest libpango1.0-0 and
pango-module-basic-xft packages installed (should be 1.2.0 in both
cases). Also, check /etc/pango/pango.modules to make sure this file
exists and is not empty. If necessary, rerun the pango-module-basic-xft
postinst script to regenerate it.
