Okay, I think it's pretty clear that the Opie folks just can live with
Opie/X11. Sigh. Okay, so now the question in my mind is what we
should do with the base familiar. I've set the Reply-To: to just
familiar, because it doesn't really involve opie or gpe anymore. I'm
just CC'ing them to bring the discussion to a close. I started it, I
get to tell you to shut up. :-)
Should familiar-base:
o Remain as it is, with no user interface?
o Use picogui to create a GUI sufficient to configure the device?
o Just throw up a splash screen saying "Hey, ya wanna gui, get on
the serial console and install GPE or OPIE."
Or should we make familiar be as self-configuring as possible, and if
that doesn't work, then you've GOT to use a serial console. So, a
bootp/dhcp client on Ethernet/WLAN, an automagic PPP start-up on
ttySA0, whatever is appropriate on IR, and usbnet modules installed.
Actually, even the most basic familiar ought to have at least a curses
full-screen display showing the status of the various network
interfaces. Otherwise, how do you know that you're getting through to
the device?
