I'd say it could indeed be somehow Gnome-related. How about a paw,
as a reference to the Gnome foot? Done in a similar style... But I
guess some other project had that idea already.
For the simplified logo, I would be okay with the circled 'g' from
the current logo, maybe with a nice two-color theme. FWIW, I
absolutely like the style that
