We have scheduled a couple day developer's meeting Friday April 4 and
Saturday April 5, here at CRL in Cambridge, Massachusetts; this is to
meet the needs of people who can/can't attend on the weekend. By definition,
this is a compromise.
We plan to have a number of people giving talks (and if you want to
volunteer to speak as well, then please send mail to hdc@handhelds.org).
We intend talks to be only a portion of the program: mostly the meeting
is intended to allow us to get to know each other first hand and
hack.
We have high bandwidth into the internet here, and hope to provide
some audio/video as well (and certainly join us all on IRC those days).
People who we know are already going to talk include:
Jamey Hicks - kernel stuff
Brian Hone - E Ink (neat display stuff; see www.eink.com).
Russ Nelson - GPS hacking on Familiar
Jim Gettys - X stuff, and where to next on X development.
Bdale Garbee - how Debian development works
Sri Subranmanian - Motorola's embedded Java Linux work
"Embedded Java (J2ME) on Linux based handheld devices and smartphones"
Joshua Wise - Bootldr futures.
See http://www.handhelds.org/hdc.html for logistical details. I know
that travel may be "interesting" at the moment. The one it may impact
unless HP relaxes its current travel ban is Bdale.
Please send mail to hdc@handhelds.org if you plan to attend: this makes
it much easier to deal with building security, particularly on the weekend.
We share the building with a number of other companies, so arranging
in advance with the building security people makes things go much
more smoothly.
Hope to see you here.
- Jim
