Mouse click and focus

When pressing the mouse over a GtkEntry, the widget temporarily gets the
focus but when the mouse is released the focus switches to the top level
window as opposed to staying on that GtkEntry. Is this behavior correct, and
if so how can it be changed? I've tried calling gtk_widget_grab_focus in the
GtkEntry's button_release_handler() but that doesn't work.
