I installed familiar on my iPAQ H3970 a few days ago, i decided to use Opie but didnt like the GUI so tryed with GPE and is much better (love X).

Last night i was trying to update my software using ipkg, GPE's "Update Manager" didnt work for me, i dont know whats wrong with it since all the packages are downloaded ok but after that the updater keeps running forever without updating (the button says "Running..."), i loaded the CPU/Monitor applet and seems like the CPU is being used at 100% all the time, i thought it was working to update but after one hour without any advance i decided to rebbot the system, the iPAQ was VERY hot, like i never see before, the stylus was on fire.

Anyway, i used the console to update and typed the follwing as root:
# ipkg update
# ipkg upgrade

A lot of questions started to apper telling me if would like to replace a system file, most of them where in /etc, the default was "N" but I decided to replace all ("Y") because thought that was what update was for.

When ipkg finished i typed:
# shutdown -r now

After the reboot my sound wasnt working, both the mixer and the volume applet crashed, i opened my /etc/modules file and saw that "h3600-uda1341" was loaded instead of "h3900-uda1380", so i changed the line and reboot and now mixer and volume worked but still couldnt hear a thing.

So my question is, Should i replace my system files when upgrading with ipkg or skip them?, i did a new install and want to upgrade tonight, but this time hope sound will work.

Another quesion, Do the mic on the h3900 devices works with Linux?, i couldnt save voice memos, i guess maybe h3900-uda1380 isnt finished yet but if anyone can tell me for sure i would appreciate it.

Sorry about the english and so many noob questions, i sended this email to both, familiar and GPE lists because "ipkg" seems to be a familiar issue while "Update Manager" problem is a GPE one.

Thank you for your attention and special thanks to familiar and GPE developers, i far better than PocketPC OS no matter i cant use my "128m SDC". =(
