wxWindows and GPE

   Hello,

I am one of the main developers of the wxWindows C++ library
and mostly responsible for GTK+, GTK2+ and X11 ports. I was
also the one who wrote the wxEmbedded code which gave us
a wxWindows port running on the iPaq under X11. I would
now like to do the next sensible step and offer better
support for GPE. This should mostly be a matter of compile
options since GTK2 and arm-cross-compilation support is
already there, but I am announcing this to avoid any
duplication of work etc. Before that, I'd like to ask a
few questions so that I understand where GPE currently
is and where it is going:
1) I gather that GPE has moved over to GTK+ 2.2. Did
you disable any "obsolete" code in GTK+ or code which
has no sensible place on a PDA?
2) Is the GTK version used by the Yopy binary compatible
with the GPE's GTK version? Did the Yopy people make
their changes to GTK2 public, BTW?
3) Am I right that GPE has no official synchronisation
protocol in place right now and that SyncML is not
patent free or is pending clarification on that
    point.
4) GPE seems to be using SQLite for a number of apps.
I am VERY interested in databases with the ability
to enter data on PDAs. To my knowledge, there is
currently no app/system/project for having a central
database (MySQL, PostgreSQL or whatever) into which
you can enter data on a PDA without having a TCP
connection to the server. What I'd need to do is
to have several people enter clinical data on a
PDA and this data is transfered to a central database
upon synchronisation (or connecting to a Server/PC).
This opens the door for conflicts, double primary
keys etc. I think that Sybase Anywhere handles that
    with the "Mobility" software.

Regards,

    Robert
