I suggest you work with the Translation Project's copy of the files.
The package maintainers send new versions of their respective POT files
to the TP from time to time; they aren't necessarily kept exactly in
sync, but they should be close.
The GPE makefiles consider the .po files at the Translation Project to
be authoritative. "make freshen-po" will download the latest versions
and import them into CVS. If you make any local changes to the .po
files in CVS, they will be lost.
