And, might I point out, we could use the one category list in *all*
apps? Then you might have:
 Work
 Personal
 Uni
for example, in each of GPE-Contacts, GPE-Calendar and GPE-Todo.
(Or whatever :)

I for one would consider this useful.

All DBs may as well be kept in the one physical DB file. (I'm using
~/.gpe/datastore in my hacky attempts at a contact manager).
