I think this is a good idea, and maybe even better if taken further.

It'd be nice to run at least parts of gpe on even more limited
platforms than the ipaq. The tuxscreen[1] for example is limited to 4
megs of flash, yet X and matchbox fit fine with a few 100k left to
play with. The sound generator could well be useful here.

Also how Ipaq specific is the RTC daemon ?
