Hmm ...
I hate to say so but when it comes to the toolkit question the answer is: Yes, you/we are limited to GTK+.
The reason is that we want to limit the number of installed libraries and/or toolkits on the final device to the absolute minimum. The target PDA (or embedded) devices or very limited in permanent storage and you should be careful not to install all and everything. We thought that GTK+ would be the most perfect choice and went for it, sorry.
But on the other hand GTK+ and FTLK applications can pretty well coexist on the same device... so if porting is not an option... But if it comes to GPE integration then GTK+ is a must.
