I'm not sure exactly. The only really heinous things I know about in
big GTK are:
- GtkEntry boxes have a minimum width of 150 pixels. This is also
overridden in libgpewidget so you won't see the problem with GPE
programs, but it can be pretty bad for others.
- GtkFIleSelection, and maybe the font selector widget too. These are
definitely unusable in their standard form on an ipaq-sized screen; I'm
not sure how good they are even when squashed. It might be worth
investigating whether libgpewidget's minifilesel could be made into a
compatible replacement for GtkFileSelection.
Most of the other stuff in squashed gtk seems to be semi-arbitrary
tweaking of stuff like icon sizes and border widths. Some of it is
actively detrimental - for example, the arrow icons that GtkNotebook
uses to scroll its tab list are so small in squashed mode as to be
almost impossible to use with a touchscreen - and some of it is just
ugly, like the radio buttons you mentioned before.
