gpe-conf and privilege:RFA

Request For Advice..

gpe-conf has things to do that will or will not require root privilèges.
I've tried to give it suid, but gtk wisely forbids setuid runnings.

They say to give another prg the suid, and to communicate by pipe.
What do you think about this solution?
Another solution?
