There is a good tutorial on putting gpe on an ipaq after familiar is installed. I have the opie bootstrap for 0.6pre (4) on my system because I really like Opie, but I wanted to have the option of running some X programs. I used the instructions found at http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/XServerHowto only I didn't get VIM, and I already had the assorted programs (they came with the boostrap). I installed matchbox because it came highly recommended. After figuring out how to keep Opie and X from loading on boot and then figuring out how to switch from one to the other, I wanted to install programs into X, specifically a terminal and then snes9x.
At first I had no idea how to use matchbox, but I think I have it figured out. Then I downloaded and installed rxvt-aa and gpe-terminal (although the message was I already had rxvt-aa on my system). On the first couple reboots, the window manager only had the launcher setup icon. I now have launcher setup, logout, terminal, and x stroke. As far as I know, I didn't change anything between this time and the last time when terminal wasn't there but was supposedly installed.
I tried to run the terminal program, and I see teeeny tiny little fonts. The only way that is working to get the letters into the terminal is by x stroke, the keyboard appears to not work or else clicking on it is not enough to get it to pop up. On the "start bar" at the bottom is the icon for the terminal, a grey empty space about 3 icons wide, a keyboard icon, and the pencil icon with abc on it, then more space then the sound icon. I'm logged in as root.
I've managed to get all this setup barely. I'm somewhat of a newbie to this kind of thing. The people on IRC think this could be a bug. I also don't know how to use the app manager or app launcher or whatever very well yet and am not exactly sure what search words I should use to find help.
