GPE on Playstation2

Hello there

I am looking around for handheld type GUIs to put on my playstation2. Some of u may know that linux has been ported to the ps2. Because I want to display on a TV (can be done on monitor) I want a low res GUI. I have been trying to build Qtopia for a few days to no avail so I thought I'd look into GPE. However I thought it would be wise to ask a few questions before jumping right in.

1> Can you build it with X 3.3.6 rather than 4.2 (as that is what has been ported to the ps2)
2> How unstable is unstable? is it usable? I'd be happy to QA if it actually is half usable
3> Can I customise the actual width and height of the display and so on
4> Can I use keyboard input? instead of a character recognizer?
5> I am happy with CVS and all that, but there are loads of projects, what do you build first?
