I wrote a few simple PIM apps in C using GTK to suit my needs when I
first got the ipaq that could possibly be of some use to the project.
They're based on the concept that text input using virtual keyboards or
character recognition is slow and useless if the text is only supposed
to be read by the writer, so they provide an empty space to draw or
write on using whatever handwriting you prefer. Obviously this won't
work if you need to sync data with the desktop or trigger alarms or
recurrences. There are also simple scripts for voice recording and an
app for listening them. The binaries and GPLed sources can be found at
http://www.samengstrom.com/ipaq/

I think there should be some kind of abstraction to the type of a note
in the PIM apps, so a note can be a drawing, typed text or a voice
recording that could then be used in the calendar, notebook, to-do list
or wherever. For example you could add drawings and recordings to your
notebook along with normal text. Also it would be useful to be able to
recognize already handwritten text the way I recall wince does.

Regards,
        Sam
