I bought an Axim for the SOLE purpose of installing Linux on it - in the builtin flash, NOT a CF or SD card, mind you! I will NOT use it unless Linux is running fully on it! (built-in!!) (I still have my Handspring and will continue to put it to good use in the meantime...)
Since my diploma thesis is about embedded development in the PXA255 area, this should be a nice fit 
Right now I don't have much time, but I definitely plan to build a small JTAG adapter to be able to flash some experimental bootloader images and kernel images on the device, with the help of JTAG Tools.
Methinks the handhelds.org website is a bit messy and unclear about where to get involved. I'm looking for further capable people interested in helping port 2.6.x to the Axim, a task which Martin Demin seems to have started (we should document our progress in detailed form IMHO in order to get more people involved).
