I've recently acquired an iPAQ as a portable computing platform. I'm going travelling for a while, and I'd like to still be able to read PDF documents and do small-scale programming while I'm away. I've been impressed by how powerful the machine is. I'm shortly going to be going on a one week cycling trip which will act as a dry run, before I go backpacking for 6 months. It'll let me sort out things like recharging from batteries or alternative power sources.
I've now got debian-arm installed on the iPAQ (with 340Mb uDrive) and have built X natively, along with icewm and ghostview.
Update:
I successfully used the iPAQ for 6 months whilst travelling, using emacs and ocaml lots, and a fair bit of PDF reading. I only managed to get it connected to an internet point twice in the whole 6 months, so it pays to be data self-sufficient. I used a stowaway keyboard, which worked fine until I spilled water over it in Thailand and it stopped working, even once dried out.
