How to set up Linux on the Compaq Tablet PC

Installation

To install via the network without requiring additional hardware (except another computer):

  1. Boot [WWW]KNOPPIX on another computer (no installation necessary).

  2. Type the command knoppix-terminalserver.

  3. Connect the other computer with the tablet via a crossover cable.

  4. Configure the tablet to boot via PXE.

  5. Reboot the tablet.

  6. You now have Linux (KNOPPIX) running on the tablet! (The hard drive has not yet been modified.)

  7. To install, e.g., Debian, follow instructions for [WWW]3.7 Installing Debian GNU/Linux from a Unix/Linux System.

Documentation

On the CD-ROM labelled Documentation Library there is a folder named docs/ which contains a lot of PDF files. Each file is named with a six digit code followed by a three digit code. The three digit code specifies the language (001 is English). The mapping between the six digit codes and the document titles is below:
